What to Expect in Your First Hip Hop Class
Here’s the format of BODIFY hip hop dance classes so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Warm-up (10 min): Your body is prepared for dance with mobility work and light cardio. Your certified hip-hop instructors will walk you through the basics of the warm-up.
Basic moves & isolations (15 min): The workout then moves to the foundational elements of hip hop, like basic chest isolations, hip grooves, arm lines, and weight shifts.
Choreography breakdown (20 min): This is the main section of the session. Your instructor will teach you a short choreography routine in 8-count segments. First you’ll be taught slowly, before building up to full speed with music.
Freestyle moment (5–10 min): A short, low-pressure section to put what you’ve learned into practice, in the form of dance to music.
Cool-down (5 min): The instructor will then lead stretching, focused on the muscles that did most of the work in a hip hop class.
